Display Energy Certificate in London Public Buildings
Display Energy Certificates (DECs) For Public Buildings & Advisory Reports have been a legal requirement since Oct 08.
The PENALTY is £500 for failing to display a DEC at all times in a prominent place clearly visible to the public and £1,000 for failing to have possession of a valid advisory report.
In addition to these penalties, it is still necessary to commission the documents - the DEC is valid for 1 year. Display Energy Certificates & Advisory reports are required for public buildings and those occupied by public authorities that have a total floor area > 1,000m2 (GIA) and provide a public service to a large number of people, e.g. hospitals, schools. A DEC shows the energy performance of a building based on actual energy consumption and is recorded annually over periods up to the last three years.
